What

Computational Design is a recent development of the design discipline in which the aspects of computational thinking are combined with those of design.

By programming an algorithm, through the use of several parameters, variables and the definition of the relationships between elements, it is possible to efficiently generate, analyze and manage any type of complex geometry. Computational Design is an increasingly widespread trend that is transforming many areas related to architecture and engineering by amplifying creativity without compromising structural integrity.

Why ?

To face the new design challenges coming from the increased attention to geometric complexity of the contemporary architectural landscape, there is a need for more efficient methods and approaches than traditional modeling. Nowadays it is even more important to adopt computational approaches to analyze, process and manage the complexity in the project. With computational design it is possible to model free forms and efficiently manage double-curved surfaces, automate repetitive tasks and quickly explore a variety of different design solutions.

Sub services

Algorithmic Modeling

This is increasingly used in design practice. By adopting this methodology it is possible to create algorithms that generate shapes and automatically update the model by modifying some parameters. Ergodomus can support you with programming specific algorithms for your project.

Form-Finding

In the concept phase the shape may be unknown and it will be reached through the mutual influence between geometric relationships and properties of the materials. Ergodomus assists you during the preliminary phase to help you define the shape through dynamic simulations.

Structural Analysis & Optimization

Hundreds of FEM analyses and changes to the model are needed to define the right shape and size of the elements. Ergodomus supports you through the use of a continuous iterative workflow between FEM analysis and optimization of the structural model.

Digital / Robotic Fabrication

It happens often that by discretizing a complex geometry, a multitude of non-standard elements are generated and they must be produced with ad hoc manufacturing techniques. Ergodomus provides you with production files according to the “file-to-factory” paradigm for digital manufacturing machinery and industrial robots.
