Timber: What's Next?!

April 2022

Dear {subtag:name},

Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) has driven our work since the firm was established in 2007. We consider it the new value engineering tool and that is why we are hosting a conference online with international experts in May: don't miss the DfMAy conference on May 26th from 4 to 6 PM (UTC +1).

Design for Manufacture and Assembly is a methodology for identifying, quantifying, and eliminating waste or inefficiency in a product design. For us, timber engineers, it means adding a new layer to value engineering.

We value engineered one of the greenest and most innovative headquarters in Canada that will be completed soon: the new Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) HQ. This project makes a conscious effort to achieve a smaller footprint through all lifecycle phases, with model simulations predicting over 75% reduction in embodied carbon compared to the average Toronto building.

For this project we used the Canadian building code CSA-O86, working together with Element 5, the biggest CLT manufacturer in Ontario.

DfMAy conference registration

The conference will be held online on May 26th from 16:00 to 18:00 (UTC +1). Keep following us on our social media networks for more information on the speakers! The international experts will be announced soon: click on the image to register!

/ Project: TRCA HQ

The HQ aims to refine the zero-carbon standard for buildings. We value engineered it using the Canadian building code.
Our scope of work for this project was: Value Engineering and Structural Analysis.

/ Value Engineering

Value engineering: the art of reducing costs and increasing quality. How can this concept be used in the design of timber buildings?
At Ergodomus we like to say "The sooner we're involved in the project, the better, and the cheaper it will be".

/ Mass timber staircase

Timber staircases can adapt to almost any style and design. They can be pre-assembled off-site and then assembled without temporary scaffolding.
