Design for Manufacture and Assembly is a methodology for identifying, quantifying, and eliminating waste or inefficiency in a product design. For us, timber engineers, it means adding a new layer to value engineering.
We value engineered one of the greenest and most innovative headquarters in Canada that will be completed soon: the new Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) HQ. This project makes a conscious effort to achieve a smaller footprint through all lifecycle phases, with model simulations predicting over 75% reduction in embodied carbon compared to the average Toronto building. For this project we used the Canadian building code CSA-O86, working together with Element 5, the biggest CLT manufacturer in Ontario.
