The idea of this publication dates back to 2013, when the need arose to fill a precise market need in view of the lack of technical texts and documents in the Italian language regarding timber buildings and the many legal aspects linked to their design, that is not only statics – to this regard, see the publication “The Carpenter’s Book” – but also technical physics, engineering, analysis of individual stratigraphies and details.
The major key word here is the latter, i.e. ‘details’: this is the aspect that most affects the quality of timber buildings and especially their duration. The book examines in depth many stratigraphy examples with their details and connection methods: Xlam or frame , ventilated and non-ventilated walls, flat or inclined roofs, etc., just to mention a few.
Every detail and/or stratigraphy is analysed and ‘exploded’ into its essential components in order to guarantee static strength, insulating capacity, air tightness and water seal, thanks to the use of specific thermal finite element analyses, as can be seen in the following pages given as an example.
To make on-site consultation easier, a specific pocket-sized version has been created without the theoretical introduction.
We would like to thank RoofRox, 3Therm and Riwega for sponsoring this publication.
7000 copies of the integral version and 10,000 of the abridged version have been printed, in two successive editions (5000+5000) to meet the great demand for this publication.
